NFWD Contributes to National Effort to Address Unpaid Care Work

On 25th November 2025, the Women and Media Collective presented their draft policy on unpaid care work to the Hon. Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Mrs. Saroja Savithri Paulraj.

NFWD President Rasanjali Pathirage joined representatives Chamila Thushari (Da Bindu Collective) and Menaka Lecamwasam on behalf of the Steering Committee.

The draft policy draws attention to the significant yet often unseen burden of unpaid care work carried by women in Sri Lanka—caring for children, elderly and disabled family members, and managing household and community responsibilities.

It proposes a clear roadmap for the state to recognize, reduce, and address this inequality, enabling women to access better opportunities, protections, and support systems.

This is an important step towards ensuring fair recognition for unpaid care workers and building a more inclusive and sustainable future for all Sri Lankan women and girls.Unpaid Care Work
