NFWD-2025

Today, the Nation Forum of Women with Disabilities (NFWD) proudly joins the global community in honoring the strength, resilience, and rights of persons with disabilities.

This year’s UN theme, “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” reminds us that true development is impossible without meaningful inclusion of persons with disabilities in every aspect of life.

In Sri Lanka, women and girls with disabilities continue to face barriers in education, employment, leadership, safety, health, and decision-making. The recent disaster has further highlighted the urgent need for accessible emergency services and inclusive planning.

At NFWD, we remain dedicated to creating a more inclusive and equitable society through:

✨ Advocating for the rights of women and girls with disabilities
✨ Promoting accessible, barrier-free environments
✨ Ensuring disability inclusion in policies and development efforts
✨ Strengthening economic, social, and leadership opportunities
✨ Providing emergency response support for persons with disabilities

On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we call upon government institutions, development partners, the private sector, and the public to join us in advancing disability inclusion across Sri Lanka.

🤝 Let’s work together to build a nation where every person with a disability can live with dignity, independence, and equal opportunity.
