Enhancing Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health for Women and Girls with Disabilities

Project Update: The “Enhancing Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health for Women and Girls with Disabilities” project, spearheaded by the Nation Forum of Women with Disabilities (NFWD) and generously supported by Freedom House, continues to make significant strides in Sri Lanka. This initiative is part of Freedom House’s broader commitment to advancing inclusive governance and empowering marginalized communities.

Key Achievements:

  1. Knowledge Empowerment: Through engaging discussions and targeted awareness sessions, NFWD has successfully increased awareness and knowledge on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) among women and girls with disabilities across various regions of Sri Lanka. By equipping them with essential information, we empower these individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
  2. Enhanced Service Access: NFWD, in collaboration with local stakeholders and service providers, has been instrumental in enhancing the accessibility and availability of SRH services for women and girls with disabilities. Through advocacy efforts and strategic partnerships, barriers to accessing essential healthcare services are gradually being dismantled, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Donor Acknowledgment: We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Freedom House for their unwavering support and commitment to promoting inclusive governance and empowering marginalized communities in Sri Lanka. Their generosity has been instrumental in driving positive change and creating opportunities for women and girls with disabilities to thrive.

Project Duration: As the project enters its second month, NFWD remains dedicated to its mission of promoting inclusivity and empowering women and girls with disabilities. With ongoing discussions and activities planned in different parts of the island, we are committed to building on our achievements and fostering a more inclusive society.
