NFWD President’s Dissertation Published: A Landmark Study on Empowering Women with Disabilities

The Nation Forum of Women with Disabilities (NFWD) proudly announces the publication of the Master’s Degree dissertation of our President, Ms. Rasanjali Pathirage, on our official website.

Titled “Identifying Inclusive Development Strategies for Empowering Women with Disabilities in Sri Lanka through Entrepreneurship and Leadership,” this research addresses a critical need for inclusive development.

Women with disabilities make up 57% of Sri Lanka’s 1.6 million people with disabilities, yet they continue to face significant barriers to economic empowerment and leadership roles. Ms. Pathirage’s study examines these challenges and provides a comprehensive analysis of existing policies, programs, and best practices. Key recommendations include vocational education, self-employment, skill development, and the promotion of individual and group enterprises as pathways to inclusion.

This research bridges the gap between gender and disability, offering evidence-based strategies for policymakers, NGOs, and stakeholders to ensure that women with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate in economic and leadership spheres.

We invite you to read this inspiring and impactful dissertation, now available on the NFWD website, as part of our ongoing mission to advance gender equality and social justice in Sri Lanka.
