The Nation Forum of Women with Disabilities (NFWD), with the generous support of Digital Democracy Initiative under the Impact Grants Program, is implementing the project “Digital Democracy for Women with Disabilities: Strengthening Inclusive Civic Engagement in Sri Lanka.”
This three-month national initiative aims to empower 60 women with disabilities from the Western, Southern, and Northern provinces by strengthening their digital literacy, online safety knowledge, and civic engagement skills. As democratic participation increasingly moves online, women with disabilities face barriers such as limited access to accessible technologies, lack of awareness of digital rights, and exposure to online harassment.
Through accessible workshops (in Sinhala, Tamil, and English with sign language interpretation), participants will gain practical knowledge on digital democracy, use of e-governance services, safe social media engagement, and complaint mechanisms for reporting online abuse. The project will also launch the #DigitalVoicesForInclusion advocacy campaign, producing accessible videos and reaching at least 20,000 people nationwide to raise awareness about digital inclusion and online safety.
By combining training, advocacy, and peer mentorship, this initiative strengthens the confidence, leadership, and digital participation of women with disabilities, contributing to a more inclusive and accountable digital democracy in Sri Lanka.
